Tomorrow morning we get the much anticipated phone call of whether or not Hayden got into FULL day Kindergarten. In our school district it's a lottery system. Most parents sign up for full day and there aren't enough spots for everyone. We are still on the fence about where we are going to send her to school. I went to a private school last week for an open house and loved it. I wanted to secure a spot at our local elementary school while we are still trying to figure it out. I'm hoping the phone call tomorrow gives me a little more piece of mind.

Swimming Lessons

We are back in swimming lessons and gearing up for NO water wings for the summer time! This time last year, Hayden was very scared to get in the "big" pool without her water wings. We have made a huge step because now she is just using the back float when she swims in the water alone. I want her to be 100% confident in the water. I'm really proud of the progress she has made in her lessons. We will continue through the end of May and hoping that she will not need the wings for the summer time.

Fond Memories

Some of my fondest memories woodworking weren’t what you’d call woodworking, I guess. As a kid, a garage full of tools is a wonderland, I spent lots of time in the garage building all kinds of things. I never really thought about the safety risks I was taking everyday, I just enjoyed building. I especially enjoyed the times when my Grandfather would join me in the garage and spend time with me teaching me skills. Not only was he a great teacher, but I really enjoyed the one-on-one time with a great man.

I want my kids to have similar memories, so I often have a visitor in the shop, my almost five year-old daughter Hayden. We sweep, handsaw, and she works on her little block of scrap walnut. She even has a toolbox full of real tools and a canvas apron from Ace Hardware.

Red Toolbox Bug Barn Kit

Today we built a Kit I bought at Woodcraft in Seattle. The store was remodeled in the last year or so, and is huge and well stocked. The owners are awesome, and let me do some filming in their classroom recently when Darrell Peart presented. I had Darrell’s permission too, and that video series will be posted as soon as I can get to the editing.

The Kit was a Bug Barn from Red Toolbox. The Kit was $16 and came with everything needed except for the glue. The instructions were clear enough for Hayden to understand, the build was quick enough to keep her attention, and the piece went together well. All the pieces were pre-cut and pre-drilled, and fairly smooth on the surfaces. Clear plastic panels were pre-cut to size and drilled with vent holes. Assembly only required a screwdriver and a bit of glue. My only negative feedback with the kit is that the screws were low quality, with one being entirely unusable. Beginners should open the kit while they’re still in Woodcraft, and pick up any supplies they need. The Kit was unfortunately built in China.

Call to Action

Kids are easy to find: nieces, nephews, grandkids – and you can even make your own! Go find one, and build a kit with them, or send them a kit. You don’t need to buy a kit - you could make your own. Birdhouses, bug barns, small toolboxes, cookbook holders, pine derby cars, toys, etc. Amazon has a lot of books with plans to make wood toys. Pick a plan and mill the parts. Gather the hardware and even the tools and assemble your own kit. Work through the kit with the kid you found, or send them the kit along with a letter and instructions. Offer your support, time, and encouragement, and get pictures of the final build.

Anniversary Gift

Our sixth wedding anniversary was earlier this month. I wanted to get something for Matt but with the holidays just ending, we both don't really need anything. I saw this darling wallet love note and knew I wanted to get one for Matt. You can personalize them to say whatever you'd like. It's the same size as a credit card and very thin. I loved the idea of him carrying something with him.

I have been wanting to participate in a growth group at my church. Actually, both Matt and I have wanted to get involved with a group. I also was planning on signing up for a sewing class. At church on Sunday, I noticed they were offering a sewing class as a growth group! Perfect. Even though I'm a former Family and Consumer Science (Home Ed) teacher I don't know how to sew. I have always wanted to make things for my house and family. I really excited because I signed up for the group and hope that I can shadow other women and learn how to work a sewing machine! Plus I'm really excited to be involved with a group of women who share the same belief I do about my faith.

Telling Family Secrets

Last week, Hayden's teacher Erika (who thank GOD happens to be a friend too) said I need to tell you a story. As a parent when you hear your child's teacher say something like this you panic. She proceeds to tell me a conversation her and Hayden had in class.

Erika: What did you during the snow storm?

Hayden: I lost a tooth.

Erika: Really, let me see? (she knew that wasn't true)

Hayden: Yep, see right here. It grew back really quick and the tooth fairy came to my house.

Erika walks away....

Hayden: Miss Erika come here I have a secret to tell you. My mom didn't wear a bra!

Erika is now dying. Trying not to laugh because she knows it's a secret and don't want to crush my daughter's feelings.

Okay, this little secret is true. I went to work out in the morning and completely forgot my normal bra. No, I couldn't wear my sports bra because it's built into my tank top and it was so nasty and sweaty. I didn't have time to go home before picking up Hayden and then taking her to art class! I was totally that lady who didn't have a bra on in public. Don't worry I at least had a black shirt, sweater and scarf on that day. When Erika told me the story we were both laughing so hard. I can't say something to Hayden because she adores Erika and I don't want her to feel like she can't tell Erika things. But seriously, I think we need to have a talk about what you should tell people!

Monday Morning Thoughts

* Over the weekend we gained a new family member. Blueberry Muffin Gradwohl, our blue beta fish.

* This morning I went to the gym to train for my run coming up but was having major issues with my colon. Enough said.

* If you are going to sweat please don't eat curry the night before. It's really rude and you smell disgusting. Thanks.

* I'm on some new medication.... waiting for the affects to start taking place.

* My calf muscles are so sore from running.

* God bless marathon runners. You are true athletes. 5k is enough for me.

* I'm finally getting our couch re-covered. Remember Gertie the beagle from hell? She destroyed the arm of the chair. I can't wait to get the new chair back.

* Jubal phone taps (if you don't live in the Seattle area you probably don't know what I'm talking about) make me laugh everyday. I love hearing them in the morning.

* Looking forward to this weekend because I'm heading to Crescent Bar with girlfriends!

Friday Night Fun

Katie is home for the weekend from college. When she comes home we try to hang out at home and relax. I asked her if she wanted something special for dinner but she isn't picky. She was just thrilled she didn't have to cook! Hayden trying out my hat my parents bought for me for my birthday! Don't worry I'll only be wearing this in Eastern Washington when it's freezing cold! It was beautiful here yesterday (but super cold) so we decided to take Gus for a walk and Hayden wanted to ride her bike to the park.Pomegranate Pork Chops were served for dinner last night. You can make them with chicken too. Super easy and really tasty.Matt, Katie and I watched this movie last night. I'm not going to lie, I went to bed ten minutes before it was over. I was exhausted and couldn't keep my eyes open. I really don't know how it ended but I didn't think it was as great as everyone else thought. I'm really glad I didn't go see it in the theater.

Engagement Party

My best friend is having an engagement party.... and I just booked my flight to go celebrate with her and her fiance. In September, Hayden and I traveled to New York and Connecticut. We spent most of our time in CT, which is one of the most beautiful places ever. I have really wanted to experience more of NY. This time I'm going alone and we are staying in the city for three days! I'm not sure what the plan is right now but I'm beyond excited to see all of it with my bestie. If you have any suggestion please let me know.

Counter Tops

We had a company come out to give us quote for new counter tops. There is nothing wrong with our current (large tiles, seen in the background of this picture) but we are ready for an update. We'd like to sell our house (hopefully sooner rather than later) and this is one way to update our house.

We narrowed it down to these two samples. The top one is granite and the bottom one is quartz. Honestly there isn't much difference to price ($300). Which one do you like best? We can't wait for one FLAT surface and not more tile. The next step to updating the house is refinishing our hardwood floors. We need new carpet but we are going to leave a carpet allowance in the price of the house. It seems really stupid to me to replace the carpet (maybe live here for a little longer) and then have the new buyer replace it. We'd rather say upfront "yes we know we need new carpet." Plus I really don't want to move all the furniture around, it sounds like a pain in the ass to me!

She was taking a music class but it was a little too juvenile (I laugh saying that because she is only 4). We started the new year with an art class. Way better fit. Plus she is taking the class with her bestie! I was so excited to see what she created but was sadly disappointed when I returned to pick her up and saw....

Nina Bath

Nina the Monkey needed a bath. Hayden wanted to bring into the bath with her and I didn't think that was the best idea. Instead she gave him a "pre-bath" in the sink. Afterwards we put him in the washing machine for a proper wash. Here is where I found Hayden.... waiting for him. It was so sweet and pathetic at the same time. She asked me if we could open it and take him out mid way through the cycle. Today Hayden and I went into Target to grab a couple of things we needed. Of course, we found a few things that weren't on the list. I'm making a very conscious effort to not buy things that aren't on my list or we really don't need. I've been cleaning out drawers and closets trying to get rid of things we don't use. Anyways, back to the purpose of my post. I visit Target weekly but when I find something I didn't see before on clearance it makes me really happy. I have been looking for an iPad cover that is more sturdy that I can travel with in the car/plane rides. Today I saw this one and was really excited. Perfect price and color. Oh, the little things in life that make me happy.

Weekend Plans

I'm working out tomorrow morning and Sunday to make up for the snow. I'm training for my 5k and really want to make sure I can run the entire thing!

Hayden and I are going to the craft store and making these for her classmates. We have a few special treats we are making for Valentine's Day.

I have laundry coming out of my a$$. I have done all of it but I need to put it all away. I have been avoiding it all week. You'd think with the snow I would have put it away, but nope it's still there! I HATE doing the laundry. I take that back, I love doing it but putting it away is so annoying to me. If I had a space like this (an everything room) I would do my laundry everyday! I love this space. I would die for a room like this in my house. A couple of years ago, I walked into a Street of Dreams house in Sammamish and saw this type of room. I loved it. A place for everything! I need to come back to reality and realize that's no happening anytime soon and get a handle on my laundry situation. We are going to take Hayden to Beauty and the Beast 3D tomorrow night. We need a family date night and thought it would be fun to take her to a movie. Mellow weekend with my sweet little family.

Cleaned out my linen closet. Getting rid of old sheets and towels we NEVER use. I really wish I could take it all to Goodwill but the roads are too crazy to drive today.My house smells super yummy! I just finished making homemade apple sauce. Decided to make spilt pea soup for dinner. It's cooking in the crock pot as I write. My driveway needs to be cleared again. Both Matt and I took turns clearing it yesterday. We woke up to more snow, freezing rain this morning and now it's back to snowing again. And for everyone that thought we were nuts to buy a snow blower, look who's laughing now! I'm going to have a clear driveway and don't have to worry about anyone falling down getting in and out of their cars.
I'm going to sit and watch a movie later. Not sure which one yet but I'm going to sit and enjoy the slow pace and try not to get frustrated with Hayden making a mess in every room of our house. I feel like I've been cleaning up after her for the past four days!

I've been trying to not drive myself crazy today. We were going to go to a movie but the freezing rain is making it impossible to do much. I called and make an appointment for Costco Home to come and give us an estimation for new counter tops. I saved all my Christmas cards that people sent me and I'm punching a hole in all of them and then attaching them together. I thought it would be fun to save them and put them out each year.

Alright I'm off to get another project done!

Crate & Barrel Online Shopping Spree

Matt and I both love Crate & Barrel. We needed some new salt and pepper mills and bought these online. I can't wait to get them. The ones we have don't work well.

I love their wooden spoons. They last forever and are totally worth every penny. I ordered a few more. They are great for mixing and stirring things in a hot pan. I have a set of these that are six years old and love to use them. I bought another set to have over in Crescent Bar and love the color and texture.

Snow Boots

Snow Day

Here is a picture of my back yard taken yesterday.

Today is a snow day. No school. Didn't stop me this morning at 5:45am on my way to the gym! I came home this morning and crawled back in bed. Hayden and I are still both in our pajamas. I made the beds. I'm going to shower later. Kind of a lazy day. I should be cleaning out a drawer or organizing a closet but I don't feel like it today. I like to take the stuff to Goodwill the same day and get it out of my house asap. Since I'm not going anywhere today I'll save it for another rainy day! I thought I'd share a few more random thoughts with you today.

* My daughter's favorite food is goldfish. I feel like she doesn't eat much. It's really frustrating and feel like a bad parent.

* I HATE Seattle drivers in the snow. If you drive a Toyota Prius what the hell are you doing trying to drive in the snow?

* I had a doctor's appointment today and they called to cancel it. I've been waiting over a month to get in. And then they had the nerve to tell me I was going to have to wait another month. I think it's time for a new doctor!

* As much as I don't want to admit it, Hayden is totally ready for full day school. We start to drive each other nuts in the afternoon if we don't have an activity.

* Sometimes I think about what we are going to be like as mother and teenage daughter. I technically already raised a teenager (Katie) so I'm thinking since I've already experienced it I might get a break.

* I'm starting to work on Hayden's birthday party decorations/gift bags. I love planning parties.

* When Matt works from home I don't get a lot done around here.

Today Matt and I are celebrating our sixth wedding anniversary. You can never predict your future but you can always hope that all your dreams come true. I can say that my dreams as a couple have come true and continue to come true with each passing day. We successfully raised a teenage daughter who is about to graduate college, had a beautiful little girl together who has made our family complete, bought our dream vacation home, both have great friends and hobbies but always find time for each other. Looking forward to many more years of celebrations. Cheers to us!

Family Date Night

Last night we celebrated (with Hayden) our anniversary. We didn't have a babysitter but still wanted to do something to celebrate SIX years of marriage. It was a perfect date night as a family.

Some Random Thoughts

I just have some random thoughts today......

* I shuffle crap around my house all day. I feel like sometimes I clean up one area and then go back and clean it up again.

* This NO RAIN in Seattle lately makes me so happy.

* There is talk of snow and that makes me really happy too.

* The thought of rain makes me depressed.

* Three of my high school friends just had (today) or are expecting boys.

* My beagle Gus is getting old. He is "pulling" muscles jumping on and off the bed/couch.

* It drives me crazy that he gets up on the furniture.

* I feel like I could drink water for the rest of my life and never drink pop or juice again.

* Told you these thoughts were super random.

* The thought of signing Hayden up for Kindergarten makes me anxious. I'm really excited for her but really worried about where she is going to end up.

* I love the Blake Shelton's, Honey Bee song.

* I'm training for a 5k with a friend. Knowing that she is doing it with me makes it way easier.

* I'm going to run this 5k, no walking.

* I hate putting the laundry away.

* I'm going through every drawer and closet in my house getting rid of stuff. I love taking the stuff to Goodwill that we don't use anymore.

* I'm really looking forward to sitting on the beach in Mexico.

* I'm thinking about joining a "group" at my church.

* I have stopped sending out my meals to people. It was too much. I feel bad, but it was too much. I just do it for myself.

* I feel grateful for my life.

* I love watching Ellen dance. It makes me smile when Hayden yells to me to come and watch it.

* It is really starting to bother me when people ask if I'm having another child. I feel the pressure and understand that Hayden is kind of like an only child but she does have a sibling she is just 16 years older.

* Matt and I are about to be DONE with paying for college (for Katie) or at least until Hayden starts!

* I'm going to sign up for sewing class.

* We need a new down comforter for our bed.

* Sometimes I get so frustrated that Hayden doesn't "listen" to me. She truly is the easiest child and I thank God for her each day.

* We are celebrating our 6th anniversary this weekend.

Tuesday night my friend Anne and I met at Il Fornaio and had dinner before the show.We went to see West Side Story at the Paramount Theater.Anne and I (she wasn't impressed with me taking a picture of us after the show). Too bad she looks great and I have a goofy looking smile!

I hated Fig Newtons as a child and I still do... however I saw an advertisement for their new cookies and thought I'd give them a try. I'm always trying to introduce Hayden to new foods/tastes/textures. She is a very picky eater. I bought these today and brought them home for her to try and she loved them. Chocolate Raspberry (I think I'd like this kind)Cranberry Oat Citrus (not sure about this kind)I bought the Blueberry Brown Sugar (because it sounds like something she might like). They are really good. 3 cookies, 140 calories and 5 grams of fat. Not bad for an afternoon snack with hot tea. I'm just thrilled that she tried something new and liked it.

.....with these ladies

I was catching up on my reality tv fix and saw that the ladies of this show took a trip to Lanai, Hawaii. This is the same place Matt and I honeymooned! And we stayed in the same place!This is exactly what it looks like. Hands down the best service we have EVER received. If you want a very quiet and relaxing place to visit I would highly recommend it. This island super small, nothing like the other islands and is complete peacefulness.

Matt and I checking into the resort on the first day, back in January 2006. We are about to celebrate our sixth anniversary on Sunday. This is one of the most beautiful places we have ever been and we do plan on going back.... maybe for our ten year anniversary!

Kindergarten Dilemma

Enrollment for Kindergarten is approaching. We LOVE where Hayden has attended preschool. There are several reasons why we love it so much. Most importantly we love that it is a Christian based school. It's been a perfect fit for our family and Hayden's preparation for Kindergarten. The school was talking about opening a Kindergarten program and we were beyond thrilled. However, they have decided to not have a K class for next year.

We are having a dilemma. The "neighborhood" school that Hayden is scheduled to attend is very over crowded. Being a former teacher I know how difficult it can be having large class sizes. We know that we are going to move. In fact, I honestly didn't think we were going to be in this house when Hayden started K. The enrollment for our district is less than a month away. I have decided to go and check out two private schools. I'm trying to check out all of my options before making a decision. I can't stop thinking about it because I want to make the right choice for Hayden.

Our Day/Night

We had a busy morning but super chill afternoon. Here's what happened today:

Matt took a bunch of stuff to the dump! We had a huge wind storm that broke some of our outdoor patio furniture and we had a bunch of leftover boxes from Christmas we needed to get out of our garage.

Hayden had a birthday party today at the American Girl Doll Store. While she attended the party I went and did a little shopping and had lunch at PF Changs.Hayden brought her Bitty Baby to the party! Matt and I heading to Tulalip Casino for dinner and a live comedy show.This is our favorite comedian. Matt found him years ago and we have all of his dvds. We show them to everyone who comes over because they are so funny. They never get old. I saw that he was coming to the Seattle area and knew we had to attend. It's an early anniversary celebration for us. We ate dinner at Blackfish. It was a great place to eat. Fresh seafood and super yummy sides to choose from depending on your taste. However, as the casino got busier the smell of smoke kept getting stronger. I honestly forget how disgusting the smell of cigarette smoke is in public places. When we got in the car, I told Matt it reminded me of college and coming home from the bars. I'm so thankful Washington State has the no smoking laws!

I'm going here with my bestie, her mom, her aunt and cousins. And here is what I'm going to be doing....

Sitting on the beach, drinking a few beers and hanging out with my best friend!Life is too short. We have airline miles and we have never used them. I decided to cash in some of miles for a ticket to Mexico. They have been begging me to go but I felt guilty leaving Matt and Hayden. I contacted Hayden's preschool director and asked if Hayden could stay full day, therefore Matt doesn't have to take time off work. Needless to say, it all worked out because I bought my ticket and I'm going. Thank you to my amazing husband for holding down the fort while I go away. I love you.

WIDE Calf Boots

I have wide calves, I'm not in denial. I fully admit it. I have been looking for WIDE calf boots for almost three years. I get so frustrated trying them on at the stores, I have been ordering them online. I have been getting packages weekly and returning them weekly. This week I went into Nordstrom and was returning another pair. The salesman who helped me happened to be a former student's husband. I was joking around with him about my "issue". He said, have you ever tried on the Steve Madden "Intyce?" I said no... he said just try them because I really think they are going to work. He brought out both brown and black. I slipped them on and almost started crying and wanted to jump up and hug and kiss the guy! Don't worry, I didn't. He said, I'm really surprised that you haven't tried these before.

My lesson learned here: Go into the store and get professional help rather than shopping online!

Girls Weekend

I'm so excited to head to Crescent Bar with two of my mommy friends.... Kim and Vanessa! We are going over the first weekend in February to hang out and without KIDS, dogs or husbands! We are going wine tasting to three different wineries which are 25 minutes or less away from our place.

I pass the Jones Tasting Room on the way to CB! I can't wait to finally stop for a taste!
This place is near the lakes Matt loves to fish at near Quincy. We are heading here too for some tasting. I'm most excited about Cave B. This place is absolutely beautiful. It's right next to the Gorge Amphitheater. Check out the website if you have never been there the pictures are breath taking.

What We Are Doing...

We are over in Eastern Washington bringing in the New Year..... Here is what we have been doing.... or will be doing in the days to come....

Having a HUGE bonfire New Year's Eve. The men have been hunting and gathering "things" to burn for the past couple days. We take hot chocolate for the kids and adult beverages for the grown-ups and hang out by the fire all night.
Watching lots of movies..... we have 7 new movies we bought and are hoping to watch.

Working on 1000 piece puzzle.

Cooking/baking lots of yummy meals and treats.

Hoping to go sledding one day near Mission Ridge. There isn't much snow and it's been super windy. The weather is way different than it was last year.

Watching A LOT of football bowl games.

It's been a very relaxed way to end the year. It's hard to believe it was a year ago, that we came over here and stayed at our friends place and then came home and decided to buy one! One of the best decision we made of 2011.

My parents rolled into town last Friday afternoon to spend the holiday with us. We meet them in Issaquah for the new Alvin & the Chipmunk movie. By the way, the movie sucked (and that's being nice.) It didn't matter though because Hayden was so pumped to see my parents! We were planning on going out for dinner afterwards but decided to get take out Thai food and come home. We loved having my parents here.

Free Concerts

Santa brought Hayden her Globe Dome and stuffed her stocking. The real hit (as you can see her facial expression) was the karaoke machine. We are having free concerts daily because of this newest toy! She actually pretty good when it comes to holding the microphone, singing and making up dance moves. I'm sure this toy is going to bring lots of fun and entertainment for us and Hayden!

Alice left Hayden a letter. She crossed out ALEXIS and put Alice Gradwohl! Ha. The handwritten was tiny. She told Hayden to make sure she listens to her parents and not fuss when brushing her teeth each morning and night.

This is one of the cutest ideas I have ever seen. My friend Angela hosted a play date last week. She created this darling bag, poem and food inside to feed the reindeer. There are four different ingredients inside. Oatmeal and birdseed for the reindeer to eat. Green glitter for Santa and the reindeer to see our house and lawn. The red glitter is to keep Rudolph's nose shiny and bright.

It was like no time had pasted. Then we started running into each other at the gym. I started working with the UW Pi Phis and needed some local alums to help. The first person I thought of was Jen. She was an amazing leader in college and I knew she'd be a perfect addition for the alum advisory committee. We have been worked closely together the past two years advising the chapter. It's been a complete blessing to reconnect with her and hang out with her darling family. We recently both stepped down from UW Pi Phis however we workout three times a week with each other and it's one of the highlights seeing her bright and early in the morning.

All Aboard The Minivan Express! Ready to start a Christmas tradition that the whole family will enjoy? I know you’ve all seen The Polar Express, well, this is our own version of that fun adventure! Each year we hide the “Golden Tickets” in our kids’ beds. My husband starts the bedtime routine as usual, while I prepare little bags of popcorn and hot chocolate drinks and place them in the car, oh and don’t forget to have Christmas music playing in the car too! When the kids go to climb into bed, they will find the ticket hidden under their covers, get ready for lots of giggles and screams as they all find their tickets! The kids are then instructed to grab their slippers and head for the car. Upon entrance to The Minivan Express, we hole punch the ticket (you know for effect and all.) Next, we travel around the city looking at all the beautiful lights. We may even stop somewhere for a fun snack on the way home. Now the kids look forward to this each year and look forward to getting “those special tickets”!

Peanut Butter Balls

Hayden and I decided to make cookies yesterday. These cookies are super easy to make and don't require baking. I'm going to make these for my cookie exchange party and to give to Hayden's teachers at school.

PEANUT BUTTER BALLS

INGREDIENTS:
1/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups peanut butter
4 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon maple flavored extract
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

DIRECTIONS:
1. Combine the butter, peanut butter, confectioners' sugar, vanilla and maple flavoring. Cream well and knead well.
2. Melt the chocolate chips over low heat. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls. Dip into melted chocolate chips.
3. Refrigerate overnight (or at least for about 15 minutes) on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper

I'm picking them up from the airport, they are spending the afternoon at our house watching football and then we are having a yummy prime rib dinner. Do you recognize this gal? It's the gal from the movie The Elf (with Will Farrel). Do you remember throughout the movie she sings? Well, she has her own CD out right now and I love it. I like a "splash" of flavor in my coffee. I like these because they are made with REAL half & half.
For some reason grapefruit only sounds good in the winter time. Maybe it's because they remind me of summer and I long for warm weather. I have been eating lots of them lately.

Another must CD. Did you see him on television last night? My favorite winter fruit to use in cooking. I love making chicken or pork chops with pomegranate juice and seeds. I even like the seeds in my yogurt in the morning.

We had an awesome family day. We all slept in... headed to church, lunch and then to Seattle Children's Theatre for their performance of A Year with Frog and Toad. It was freezing outside but the sun was out and it was a beautiful day in the city!

We can't wait to go back in the spring to see The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Puzzle Time

This morning Alice decided she wanted to play with a puzzle. She started it and is hoping that Hayden is going to finish it when she wakes up! It's been so fun thinking of different things to do with Alice. I love seeing Hayden's face when she realizes what Alice has done. I love the Christmas spirit and love seeing it through Hayden's eyes. I hope she never stops believing. I'm going to have to get more creative each year!

Nativity Set

Hayden was very happy to see what Alice brought her this morning... I loved that I was able to capture her excitement.Thank you Alice or Daddy. Alice brought Hayden a Nativity Set this morning. Actually, Matt bought it when he was out Christmas shopping! When he told me he bought it because he was out shopping, I almost fell over. Normally he waits until the last minute to shop. I'd like to think I'm rubbing off on him after 8 years together.

This set is made by Fisher Price that comes with all the animals, sweet baby Jesus, the three wise men and lights up when you put the angel on the top of the barn. It's age appropriate for one year olds and up. I love that Matt bought it for her and plan on keeping it forever!

Alice's Arrival

Alice returned to our house last night! She was exhausted from flying back from the North Pole. She decided to take a rest in Hayden's doll bed (that Matt/Mom made for her two years ago). It's rough being an elf. Hayden realized that Alice was back home!So happy Alice is back home!

Holiday Attire

Hayden loves these red shoes. She wore them for Halloween with her Dorothy costume. She begged me to wear them for Christmas too. We walked around Bellevue Square a little yesterday after getting pictures with Santa. We loved seeing all the Christmas decor around the mall.

Santa Visit

I surprised Hayden today after school and took her to see Santa. We had been talking about what she was going to ask Santa for Christmas for over two months. I have been suggesting different ideas. We have given her all the catalogs and magazines that have come to our house to help her make her decision. I'm thankful that she is still young enough and doesn't realize that she can ask for something super expensive!

Target and St. Jude's Ad

I was looking through two magazines this weekend and saw this ad. I loved it. I love the message. The ad is for Target and St. Jude's Children Research Hospital partnership to help find a cures to children illnesses. I think the wording is beautiful and captures childhood.

Alice our Elf

Meet our Elf on the Shelf, Alice. I have no idea where the name Alice came from, but Hayden decided that was going to be her name. I'm beyond excited to play a few "tricks" on Hayden this year and blame it on Alice. I found these pictures below on Pinterest and thought they were so funny! Some of these ideas are going to take a little preparation. I'm going to set them up before she gets up for school or while she is at school. I can't wait to see her face when she arrives on Thursday! I'm going to dying laughing when she wakes up in the morning! I'm going to paint her nose red. Alice is going to be the teacher to all of Hayden's toys one morning!

I love the holidays! I'm taking Hayden to see Santa on Wednesday and can't wait to hear what she asks him for this year. Hopefully something we have heard of and not some crazy toy!

Every time this commercial comes on tv... I stop what I'm doing to watch. It cracks me up! Does anyone else find it as funny as I do?
I didn't go out on Black Friday... I think it's completely nuts to be out there with all those people.
It actually gives me a little bit of anxiety to be out there. I did it last year for the first time ever and didn't understand all the craziness. I swore I'd never do it again.Love her outfit...I think this Target lady represents how exciting the holidays should be. Spending time with family, giving gifts, decorating the house, entertaining, cookie exchange parties, drinking festive drinks, kids thrilled to see Santa and remembering the "real story" of why we celebrate.
